For household use in developing regions, a long black oven can be placed in the focal region for baking bread, cooking meat and poultry, etc. The cooker above was built in about 20 minutes, using a sheet of thin stainless steel and scrap wood. Even though it is only 50 inch by 36 inch, it was able to cook the egg below in less than 20 minutes on a sunny morning. A "solar side up" egg. The temperature measured inside the container peaked at 210 degrees F, just shy of boiling point of water.

my niece Gabrielle Bui and nephew Alex Priesig helped me built this prototype. Gabrielle then wrote a wonderful little paper for her school. She just turned12 yearsold! Also, thanks to my neighbor Pat Frantz for donating the steel sheet.

I will refine the system a little bit and then do some more measurements using smaller models and photovoltaic cells like the one shown below.
